Ever wanted to know all the little details about every rock underneath the sun? Well these guy got it! www.gemhut.com/gemidx.htm Everything from hardness and origin to how the finished product looks. It is a vast weath of knowledge. But keep in mind, this is retail webpage. By the way, it took me hours to relocate this place. Enjoy!

Another good place is the University of California at Berkeley. This is actually an internet course, but you can access the lecture pages. Lots of good information on "Gems and Gem Materials". socrates.berkeley.edu/~eps2/

Greetings All,
Nice site James. I'm still trying to find out exactly what kind of rock the Leopardstone and the Butterjade is that I got from Gerdus. Eventually I'll take a couple of peices to some Geology departments at The University of Mississippi or such and see if they have any ideas. Searching the internet via google hasn't really helped with these, and Gerdus claims not to know exactly what they are either, just that they are widely used for carving and such. Well, serves me right for getting all happy and buying first and asking second. I'll know better next time...

Hey William. I was just reading somewhere about Butterjade, and I can't remember what they said it really is. All I remember was that it wasn't really a jade. Give me some time, maybe it'll come back to me. I also saw a site with a picture of two leopards carved from leopard stone at: www.crissonandhind.com/pages/RoyalGazetteJan2003.htmLet me cogitate on the butterjade and I'll get back with you. Ron
