Doing a quick craigslist search yesterday afternoon (lapidary) and saw an ad which had just been posted 4 hours earlier.
Posted ad link elsewhere here yesterday as I was hurrying out the door - ad had been removed by the time I got back home with my goodies.
Lapidary equipment - father's stuff and folks had no idea what they had, just wanted it gone.
$150 or best (reasonable) offer. Glad I could be there for them!
Google maps said it was a 52 minute drive. I made it there in 45
Raytech 10" saw was my main draw. Not like I need it, or anything else I brought home, just hate to pass up a gooddeal steal.
Pics of what I picked up. Stuff needs a good cleaning and I still need to check to see if motors work.
Fun winter projects. Bonus is my wife loves when I bring this kinda stuff home!
10" Raytech saw w/ autofeed - 1/3 hp Dayton motor
has a lid, but it's cracked and has a golf ball sized hole in the back. Will buy a new lid for about $125
could just tape over hole, but that's not how I roll
can swing auto-feed vise out of the way and use as a trim saw. Blade has some surface rust, but looks to have quite a bit of life left in it. I'm going to enjoy cleaning this up and getting her running.
Thinking this is an older Lortone duel 6 lb barrel tumbler. Don't care... it's headed for the shed for now.
Had a couple 12 lb Lortone barrels a couple years back. Traded them for rock. Shoulda kept them.
a couple 8" Poly arbors one with SiC wheels one with expanding drums - will deal with cleaning up, checking bearings, replacing belts and probably painting over the winter. No hoods came with these arbors. Asked about them and seller didn't have a clue what I was talking about. poop...
then there is this thing...
Figuring maybe I can use it to polish faced rocks. Was watching a jamesp thread recently about using diamond grinding / polishing pads. Thinking that is what this thing is for. Came with lots of various pads. some round metal discs and round wood discs (for backing when using carpet as a polishing pad?)
I dunno... gotta read up on what I've got here. 15" across on the wheel. Need to come up with a water (drip) feed I think, as there is a holder off to the side of the wheel which I believe is for that purpose.
Gonna be a fun project to figure out the best use for this piece.
Well, that's it. The seller didn't have any rocks left from father/grandfather.
Anyway, thought I'd show ya that somedays it pays to be the first response to a craigslist ad!
Oh, paid the asked for $150. Told seller it was a good deal, I appreciated it, and there was no need to negotiate.
Everyone happy!
except maybe my wife ...
