I'm finally starting to work with the slabs I've been cutting. They are sitting in a bowl of water to show the colors. Andrea

just curious, what is the purpose of the marked line offset from the edge?Beveling line maybe? Are these just from cutting on the saw? and what type of saw?.
I have been cutting out preforms on a 7 inch tile saw and mine leave a good bit for the rough grind to get to the finish shape. Yours seem a lot smoother than I am able to do.

H I used a tile saw to get close to the lines I drew but then used a grinder to get to this point. The lines will be ground off on the Genie next by turning the preform upside down and making a beveled edge. I'm going to retrace the template on the bottom so I don't lose the shape. Andrea

I would try to keep a thin line of clear / translucent around the big spots... but that's just me. OCD? Yes ...
But why cut away much more than you have? Just tidy up the cut lines and you're home. The lines won't survive the higher grades / polish anyway. Just my 2c...

Andrea That is the same way I do it. The top is to get the general shape of the cab and the bottom is where the cab is cut from. I always leave a little room with the top lines in case something goes wrong or the bottom chips. After grinding the bottom edge to 280, I mark the girdle and a center line on the top. I grind from the girdle line to the center line.

Very nice pieces, how thick are they to start can't wait to see the finished cabbs, Thanks. They are about a quarter of an inch thick. I started working on them last night. They got to the 600 wheel but a couple have to go back for a little more work.

I started working on them but then the week got so busy with other things I haven't finished them. Hopefully soon.
