Like your pics. Thanks for jumping to photobucket, seems every time I have to give out my e-mail to sign up with something, it greatly accelerates the fillup of my in-box; 99% junk.

No problem, I actually had a photobucket account from years ago with 1 picture in it, LoL. My username was taken, which 9 times out of 10 means I have an account because it is a very rarely used name I made up many years ago.
Now that I've gone back, I really like it, very user friendly once you download the app!

Day 3 tumbling with excessive amounts of grit. Just as little progress as day 3 with only 2× grit recommendations. A nice thick slurry, mostly crushed abrasive... After 6 days I will compare test 1 with test 2, and follow up with test 3 - 6 days having no abrasive media at all.

What do the stones look like after a week of grind?
What type of granite is it?
Absolute black?

Currently rolling Black Galaxy, though I do have Nero Assoluto in the queue.
I will post pics tomorrow, they will be after 6 days tumbling. Batch 1 came out with all sharp broken sides "smooth" or "leathered" if you will. The bottom side had a rough concrete texture prior to tumble, top side was polished, both top and bottom look the same now.
Pictures tomorrow will include batch 1 and batch 2.

Nice.
At least black galaxy isnt technically a granite. Should do well. I started some blue pearl (larvikite) and its all one material, not technically granite either, and should do well.
Dont try giallo fiorito or similar. It will break your heart. The feldspar will break your heart.

The beauty of it is, I am not expecting or even hoping for any sort of nice tumbled polished product. I am looking for odd shapes and hardly a luster. The purpose of my current tumbling is for unique aquarium substrate topping.

Test barrel #2 - way too much abrasive After 6 days with 5 or 10 times the recommended amount of abrasive, my conclusion is that too much of it will reduce results. Here are some pictures. Runny part of slurry (basically all crushed abrasive) Barrel 1 - 6 days @ roughly 2× grit measurement Barrel 2 - 6 days @ excessive grit measurement 3 pics - first run on the left second on the right Notice the much rounder and smoother effects on the stone out of the first tumble, too much abrasive definitely doesn't help, but now I have a crap load of finer grit slurry if I ever decide to do a stage 2 tumble. And now for barrel 3 - ZERO abrasive, nothing but rock and water

Forgot to post on day 3, but it basically killed the experiment. After 3 days tumbling with no abrasive, the findings were astonishing. The first 2 barrels showed very little progress after 3 days. Barrel 3 after 3 days showed more progress than barrel 1 or 2 after the full 6 days.
Tomorrow is day 6, the results will show that it is better, for the purpose I am tumbling, with no abrasive than it is to tumble with Hornet Abrasive.
Will post the pics tomorrow.
