Scored this at the Sweet Home sale too......Haven't a clue what it is,but it's pretty cool with the sun hitting it... Kind of looks like it has pyrite in it... (Could be wrong though)...

fossilman is the pic wet? If its not wet, could it be magnetite in obsidian? Just taking a guess.

I have "fire" Obsidian in my shop that will be worked....Sometimes you can't tell if you have it,till you start working it,than BOOM!!! Found the collecting area at "Glass Buttes",so we grab while we are there... That one piece of Obsidian I posted, has fire in it......Might have a knapper do their magic on it...

The responses seem so certain. What is the indicator for magnetite on this rock? Is it the feathery edges? I have cut many rocks that I discarded which looked similar, so maybe I should retrieve them for another look-see.

That jade and magnetite is nice stuff.
The magnetite can be gold plated after cabbing. Imagine. Gold crystals in black jade.

Defiantly Definitely, see the gold plating (Pyrite)on this stuff.... No pyrite in that slab. It's magnetite. A different and magnetic iron ore. By gold plating the magnetite you get a fabulous look. It's my holy grail. And, I have some rough! kk
