You cant beat ebay snipers, you may as well join them.
This is just some hints and tips i started to write up in another thread then figured it may be better in a post of its own.
There is a trick to bidding and winning a bargin on ebay.
I use an application called Auction Sentry
www.auction-sentry.com/
, what it does is watch my auctions for me in one conveniant application. You can even place snipe bids with it, placing bid in the final seconds of an auction. Unlike a sniper service you have full control over your bids and no monthly charges.
Most times I will not bid on things i want unless i am trying to get a feeler on the reserv price or how high somone had bid. Most people will only bid a couple bucks higher then what the current bid is set at, after all they are also trying to get a bargin. You can many items on your watched item list in ebay and add them to your Auction Sentry with a mass add feature.
It collects all your potential purchases to be watched with out ever opening yup and ebay page. You can monitor how the bidding is progressing on all the items you are interested in. with out popping back and forth between ebay pages. It also give you a really good idea as to how much something is really worth buy how much people are bidding on them. that in turn makes you KNOW when you have found a bargin price.
Now getting the bargin is primarily based on finding one first.
Things to look at:
Not related to price but you also want to see the sellers rep. its really not a good idea to buy something expensive from somone with a low score thats wanting cash check or money order.
Once you have your bargin targeted understand there are other people likly waiting to snipe. you want to make sure you place the highest your willing to pay, at the last possable second. Thats the best way to insure you get the best possable price. If you bid ahead of time, you may get people pushing up the price while they try to find your top end and if it is more then their top end. Every time they do it costs you money.
the trick is to leave them thinking no one was interested, that tends to keeps the prices down rather then having a bidding war that drives the prices up to the higest people are willing to pay. The objective of a Buyer at ebay is to get the best price, after all if you just wanted to buy something you would just go to the store or buy new from a real store
The program will do this for you by allowing you to set your bargin price ahead of time and with out actually obligating your self by bidding on something only to find and even better bargin later.
If the price goes higher then your willing to pay then you never place a bid, If you change your mind for any reason, you simply cancel out the snipe anytime before its placed.
If you win the bid you will likely win it cheaper then you would have by bidding up front and raising the prices in a bidding war.
