Do any of you guys use power tools to remove pitting in rough prior to tumbling? I would think that there would be a lot of material saved rather than trying to tumble all of the pits and crevasses out during the process.

check out some of jamesp 's threads he is a master at the pre-tumble grind.... Andy-found a chunk of rhyolite that is a carbon copy of your Montana stuff. Certain it did not wash down from your area. But somewhere upstream Texas or Mexico made duplicate rhyolite. I wear ear protection, breathing protection and eye protection. Very very cautious of fingers. Love shaping rocks on this rig, then slapping a tumble finish them. Welcome to the forum hogan. Turn volume down.

Can also be used as a high speed hammer to chip larger pieces before grinding.
