Well, it's been a busy year. Quartzsite in Jan., albeit the week after the Pow Wow and picnic. Did get to visit with Tony and spent a day looking for rocks with drocknut, also saw some old friends from Colorado who were wintering there. Made the super bloom in Death Valley, got to Pyramid Lake and Lake Lahonton. Did a drive by at Craters of the Moon along the way. Made it to McDermitt in May for the big group thing. So, some stuff since then. yup, that is the old Lincoln Highway. Hard to imagine that this was the main transcontinental route at one time. Probably lots of fun in a Model T. I know that some folks here have read John McPhee's "Basin and Range". Fairly early on he talks about the "goober" in the rockcut. There's the "goober" right there. Happened to be passing through Wendover during speed week. Don't know why, but I didn't take any pictures. There was some really interesting machinery on trailers in every parking lot in town. Some rocks we picked up wandering around here. Some rocks we picked up around here. Just gotta have a critter. Enough for now, need to get some more pics uploaded. Thanks for looking, and have a wonderful day. Russ

Cool... I like the old building: 'one to refresh' as the Mrs & I say to one another after a particularly misleading estate agent's description one time.
Bee-hive buildings, reminiscent of some pottery works. What were they?
Critter - always!

Thanks all. Back from my self-imposed exile from the interwebs. Going easy, see if I can sort of behave. Jean has it right about the charcoal ovens. They are scattered around the West, the ones I showed are at Bristol Wells, NV. There are some more up the road at Ward. Note the difference in workmanship. These were built of locally quarried tuff. Pretty impressive. Have a great day. Russ
