How far past the bottom tip of the Diamond Blade should the oil rise. I just poured all 5 gallons of the new oil I had in a just cleaned 24 inch Saw and the oil just touches the tip? 1/4"? 1/2"?
Thanks

I suppose I will need to order a couple more gallons. Using the UltraCruz Mineral Oil Light.
Thanks

Some add bricks or the like to raise the oil level. Kinda like a brick in the toilet tank to bring up the water level to the needed height without having to use the normal amount of water.
I haven't done this, but read about such here.

I like that idea. Will take two or three, clean them off good and then place in the far corner of the tank.
Thanks

If I went that route, I'd probably go to Home Depot (wherever) and buy a paver or two, larger than a brick. Thinking the extra weight may help make sure it never moves. But I bet that bricks would be just fine.

Have a few spare 6 X 12 by 2 inch depth cinder block type. One of those should work, nice and heavy and not likely to move.
Thanks

I've done the bricks thing and it seemed like a great idea to me and it works right up until cleanout time. Not the end of the world but it definitely added to the generally sh***y experience of cleaning the saw and gives you more things that have to be cleaned - or not. I think mine went straight into the landfill garbage. In hindsight I would place the bricks on their edges to provide more leverage when trying to separate them from the muckymuck they became glued in.
Good call on the choice of SCBT oil. I've ordered from them three times now with perfect success.

The flat block I just pulled out from behind the garage already had a weathered coat of paint, maybe I will re-paint with several coats to sort of seal it from oil absorption(maybe) and then place it on a couple of very flat and thin sticks like tongue depressors making it a bit easier to remove during clean-out.
Just cleaned my 24 inch saw yesterday. What a mess!! it took almost 3 hours and some old clothes straight to the trash can. Now I just need to let to old oil settle out and take it down to my local mechanic for disposal.

UltraCruz Mineral OilIt's a great deal in the US with free shipping over $50. Not sure what the freight to Canada would do to you.

Glenn is in Alaska. Probably still expensive to ship there.
Hey Glenn - what/where is your new avatar picture?

I have two HP 24's and have the blades about an inch into the oil. Unless you are in the habit of regularly looking at the blade, more oil is better than less.

I see you are letting the oil settle out. that does work well but it does take time. I also run mine through a complicated filter system. A paper bag from a grocery store. Patience is key as it can take a couple of weeks to get 90% of the recoverable oil out. I dump that right back in the saw and then keep filtering the rest continually. By the time I am done with it the bag goes right in the trash.
