2 used Lortone 33B's that run but need work. The work is cleaning them up and putting new belts on them. Cost $31.10 for both. Even if one of them, or both, need a new motor, it's still less than a new one! Also got three used Lortone 3 lb. barrels at about $9.00 each. Half the price of a new one. My 3lb. barrel that went with the Chicago Electric tumbler fits on the 33B. The Chicago Electric tumbler bit the dust the other day - right after I said how good it was holding up running 24/7 since January! The motor didn't burn up; a little piece that attaches the shaft to the motor broke. I could fix it, but with my two new/used 33B's, I won't have a place for it anymore. I be a tumblin' fool! ;D

Wow Llana, great buy! Congratulations, it's a ....tumbler! I assume that was on Ebay. I'm still alittle wary of them, but I should go look for a small, inexspensive rotary there. I see in your future some great quartz to throw in thoses. cookie

Cookie, I have bought tons of stuff from eBay - books, a bike, 3 tumblers, rough for tumbling (from Astrogallery and findingking, no less!) and I can't remember what all else and have never gotten screwed. Always got just what I ordered, got it fast and in excellent shape. I have been really fortunate, esp since a few folks here got screwed by findingking and Astrogallery. The secret is to always look at a person's feedback. Not just the feedback rating, but read through the feedback and see what other buyer's are saying.
I think I got a good deal - but until I actually get the stuff and look at it, I won't know for sure if it was a deal or not. But, I figure it's pretty darn hard to tear up one of those barrels. They looked clean and in good shape. The tumblers looked dirty but not beat up. The guy did say they needed work, so I don't expect them to be perfect. If I put on a new belt and they tumble, I don't care what they look like! ;D

They ain't pretty, both have quite a bit of rust on the body and the motors are obviously old, but they work. One has the screw or whatever missing that keeps the fan on and the shaft that is not connected to the motor won't turn properly. I am going to have to take it apart and see if I can sand the rust off that shaft. I think that's what is preventing it from turning properly. I think I can probably engineer what I need to keep the fan in place. If not, I will just order a new motor.
The other one works fine. I just cleaned and oiled it up, put a belt on it and it is now spinning two barrels.
The boot gasket on two of the barrels didn't look so good, but I filled the barrels with water and let them spin for a couple of hours. No leaks!
Think I am going to sand the rust off them and spray paint them with Rustoleum and they'll be good as new.
I got a heck of a deal even if I do end up having to replace the motor on the one.

hey llana if the screw is just misseng on the little fan see if ya can replace it at the hardwear store hell if ya get the shaft cleaned just crayzy glue the plastic fan to the shaft first line it up mark the shaft wile its in the tumbler so it dont hit anywear then take the motor out and glue it and let it sit over nite thers no pressure on the fan so it should work

John, I took the motor out yesterday and am taking it to the hardware store to find something to hold the fan on with. The fan isn't held on with a screw - wish it was - would have made it really easy to fix. I think one of those washers, like the ones that hold the shafts on, will work. Just have to take the motor with me so I know what size. Apparently the motor had been replaced because the wires were spliced with electrical tape. Am going to use those plastic thingys when I put it back in. Haven't been able to get the washers off the ends of the shaft that doesn't turn properly so I can clean it up. While I have it apart, I am going to sand the rust off the body and paint it. Am trying to decide what color to paint it. Do I stay with the original grey color, go to the aqua color of my new 33b or do I go crazy and paint it Neon yellow (already have a can), do a tie dye or maybe a camo paint job. I do love purple, so maybe I'll go for purple. ;D

I think I'd go for camo. That way no one could see your barrels and try to steal your rocks! Otter
