hi all, I use aluminum oxide polish on my sea shells, get a good shine saw some other shells much better than mine, I do have some tin oxide would that get me a higher shine or can someone tell me what would thanks guys joejan
ps I tumble in a rotary tumbler, 120 - 220 grit for first 500 aluminum oxide for second, aluminum oxide for 1 week for polish ivory soap for finish

As a final step, did you burnish with soap/water?

Might add an intermediate prepolish of 1200 before polish. Could be the polish does not quite clean up the 500 grit surface finish.

That suggestion makes sense.
Also could it be possible that you are getting scratching from a bit of grit from another step? Or perhaps the pieces of shell are rubbing/scratching against each other? The grit issue can be resolved with a good washing of the material and drum plus removing any pieces with cracks or crevices. Plastic pellets are good if the pieces might be scratching each other.

The rock shed alox polishing material has rave reviews from many here whom show off superior shines. I plan to try it when I get back in action.
