Flint is chalcedony and whichever way you slice it, the slabs will be solid and nice.
What is the locality of the nodule? Looks similar to the nodules I've got sitting around.

no telling what is inside of that biggun. Not a Rio but I've always heard that size matters.

no telling what is inside of that biggun. Not a Rio but I've always heard that size matters. 25 pounds pretty much dwarfs anything on the Rio Mike. That's a big ole southern hoss. Since you are probably not going to saw it consider knocking a window off of it with a sledge.

Would make excellent tumbling fodder... but what make better tumbles if the nodule was slabbed first, then whacked gently with a sledge.

Agreed adam. Maybe Mike can make 'near slabs' with the sledge and then chip tumbles from them. All depends on how easy the chert breaks. Hopefully like glass.

That's a good sized rock... maybe the way forward would be to chip off slabettes in the manner of knapping?
