I know it's a long shot since most folks here don't facet, but if anyone knows of a 5-symmetry UT index gear that is longing for a new home, could you point them my way? I'm itchin' to cut some of the lovely 5-sided star and flower cuts.
Thanks! Michelle

Michelle micellular, I've seen them online for something like $64, I think on UtraTec's website. Or was you wishing for Santa to bring you one? Lol. You can use either 80 or 120 to get the five symmetry.

rockpickerforever, UT has a 80 index for $70 and 120 index for a whopping $90, not incl shipping. I was hoping to find a cheaper used one, of either kind.

Not at all. Have you tried emailing the American Faceting Yahoo Group?

Michelle micellular , there are some local shows in the spring here. A couple years ago at one of them, a gentleman gave me his card and said if I needed any faceting equipment to contact him. Have no idea where the card is, but I'll try to remember his name, and make sure to contact him previous to the show.
While trying to find what a new gear would cost, I ran across this site: The International Faceting Academy . Also lots of good info on the International Gem Society website - www.gemsociety.org/ . And I also stumbled onto a webpage with many stones cut by a variety of faceting artists. Photos of the finished stones, as well as faceting diagrams. Truly drool worthy! I will try to locate that bookmark, may be in my tablet...
Lots of eye candy out there! How about this beautiful 300+ carat faceted sunstone? More info on it at John Bailey Gemstone Artist
Will try to come up with the man's name, better yet, his card, and also the website with all the cut stones. Jean
ETA - Not the one I was looking for but here is one with various diagrams Index of Faceting Diagrams Published at Bob's Rock Shop . Eh, you probably already know of that one...

rockpickerforever, thanks for the research! I actually joined IGS when I first got started to get access to some of the articles. It's a pretty useful website, but I got tired of paying per month. I may re-subscribe when I need a refresher on those articles. I actually got in touch with John Bailey a little while ago because he's also a paraglider! I plan to meet him at Tucson.
