Very cool stuff. I've never heard of it before. Where does it come from? Looks like my 14" Highland Park saw. Yours is cleaner! Lynn

It is from Turkey - I believe it is technically an Onyx. Makes for awesome cabs. Not much of it around but roy imported this stuff...its killer. Most slabs you see are cut perpendicular to the grain, showing fine banding or pin striping....I like cutting it just slightly off the parallel to get the color smears. Cheers

Beautiful material! I'm looking forward to seeing some of the cabs.

Lapis lace ... that's a new one on me. Looks lovely! Should be some good end product coming out from that.

I like the looks of that "just-off-parallel" cut Andy. Very nice!

Those color splashes are fantastic. That's the best cuts of lapis lace I've seen!

Thought it had a travertine onyx look to it. Is that a dyed ( treated) material or natural? Travertine is very porous and does take dye well. Years ago one of the big rock catalogues used to sell dyed Mexican Crazy Lace that had that exact same color to it. Since lapis occurs only in metamorphic limestone and marble, it seems odd that lazurite, a metamorphic mineral would be included in travertine, a sedimentary rock unless the travertine is metamorphosed ( is that a word?) into actual marble. Is that a fairly hard travertine or soft like cave onyx? Just curious as to how it was marketed. Whatever, it sure is a pretty stone....Mel
Went to a marble counter top site and I think I answered my own question. Seems to be several types of travertine marble with included lapis and some looks pretty similar to the lapis lace. Site implied it was a natural stone. I'd sure like to see a pic of it in situ. That would be pretty cool. I was wondering if it was a deal like that Rainbow Cal Silica that was super expensive and all the rage for awhile. I think they finally figured out that was a dyed form of that Oaxaca travertine ( ocean wave travertine) out of Mexico. Tricky folks figured out a way to market the more straight banded Oaxaca stuff that was not salable otherwise *L*.

Sabre52 this material is not dyed or treated. Mined in Turkey. As typical with many materials, there are several names floating out there on the interweb - a common one which refers to it as onyx and another which refers to it as marble. Based upon your observations that lazurite is a metamorphic mineral, I would correct my earlier statement about it being an onyx and correct it to a marble. First slab I ever got of this material was a few years ago from an estate of an old rock hound, who likely acquired that material in the 50-60s. I had not seen rough available until roy started to import some from Turkey this past year. As always Mel, thanks for asking the right questions...always learning. Cheers
