Some of ya'll may recall that back in November I scored a pretty decent lapidary equipment buy off Craigslist. Picked up some kinda homemade flat lap, a couple Poly arbors, an old Lortone tumbler and a Raytech 10" saw all for a buck fiddy.

I'll get around to dealing with all this stuff over time, but the Raytech saw was first on my list to play with.
Here's a little photographic ride-a-long of the refurbishing
As I got it
Well, unless you are new here or simply haven't been paying attention, ya know that's not gonna fly with me.
MUST pretty this thing up!
So it all comes apart. It was a bit rusty and I can't have that!
Thought about sanding everything down and painting with a hammer finish paint, but got to thinking about how all that sanding wouldn't be any fun and would take me pretty much forever, so ...
All the metal parts got taken to a local powder coating shop. There is a young guy (mid 20s?) that owns the shop and he and I are going to be seeing a lot of each other with future projects. He's got the hood for that 24" saw that I picked up last fall and will get the body of the saw when I get around to taking it all apart.
Actually, I've got all sorts of lapidary equipment to send his way. Just WAY too easy to let someone else deal with the derusting and metal stripping for me not to have him do it!
Side note here - I had a question when taking it apart and called Raytech. Well, Raytech sold part of their lapidary equipment business awhile back to a gentleman in Colorado. So Rick Scott (Scott Enterprises) now owns the company that makes the Raytech saws and vibrating laps. Not sure if he has other machines under his roof.
Anyway, I called Scott Enterprises and Mr. Scott answers the phone and was kind enough to help me with my question(s). Just mentioning this because I appreciate good customer service like this even when I was not a paying customer. I do have a new plexiglass (whatever) hood for this saw on the way from him, as the one that came with the saw was cracked and had a hole in it.
Contact # for Rick Scott should anyone have any need for it for Raytech saws and the vibrating lap(s).

All the powder coated parts were done in a quickness and ALL for just $125. Heck, it was worth that to me to not have to sand all that rust off and the powder coating looks much nicer than some spray paint job!
Went and bought all new nuts & bolts, a couple new power cords and probably some other small stuff and got to putting everything back together. Thought I might be needing some new parts, but everything cleaned up nicely.
Also ordered a new saw blade from johnjsgems and drove across town to Grainger and picked up a new motor for the saw.
The old motor hummed when plugged in, but had to be push started on the pulley to get it running. I will take it to a local motor repair shop and have them get it running so I have it for some other project down the road.
No way I was gonna get it fixed and put that rust bucket motor on this saw!
All back together except the new hood with is somewhere between here and Colorado!
Runs great and the power feed works fine. Purdy ain't she!
And, there are a couple stickers that go on the switch box on the front of the saw that Mr. Scott is also sending me at no cost which will be the finishing touch. The stickers that identify the toggle switches and Raytech sticker that goes below the switches. Gotta like that kinda generosity!
Guess that's it. Pretty much a new saw now.
(more pictures in the Photobucket album if anyone hasn't had enough already)
Oh... since some will be curious -
I kinda figure I got the saw for free with all that stuff I picked up off craigslist if I unload the Poly arbors and that old Lortone tumbler someday on eBay.
So here is what I have in this saw:
powder coating - $125
new blade - $90 (don't recall exactly)
new Dayton 1/3 HP split phase motor & pulley about $150
new hood - $125
new power cords, belt, weather stripping and misc. bolts/nuts/wingnuts (whatever) - 50 bucks +/-
So yeah, I put about $550-ish into the make over job. But, a new unit is around $1,500+
And, it kept me out of trouble for a while!
It's what I do.
