I found my slice of Royal Sahara Jasper and will cut as soon as I work up the energy. That's picture jasper right? I purchased one nodule once and only ever cut one slice off of it (by hand). It took like an hour, at least.
Even indoors in Socal, I think I'll probably have to heat the water in the drip bucket!

I would assume that anything that is not the plane typical jasper can be considered picture jasper.... and some picture jasper is rhyolite as well. That being said if it looks fancy and looks kinda picture like sure I think what the theme creators original idea was a non plain jasper. I found a piece that i'm not sure what it is, I will probably work it this weekend ... although might start it during this week. Took a while but i just had it laying on my shelf where i didn't have to travel to my shed. some types of jasper i know of without thinking hard that i would consider picture jasper are : imperial, biggs, spiderweb, duchess... after that i have to think a bit

At the moment I think that's all I have that's not red jasper / carnelian. Would that suit?

I found a picture jasper that had been sitting around half done for a loooong time so I finished it so riverat would have some company. However, I lost my slab and preform pics somehow so it's not a proper entry, but in the spirit of just having fun, here it is. I'm going to try to enter these to keep me posting! Rocky Butte Picture Jasper. The design was a little more pronounced before I started grinding, but well, you know what happens!

Hey Glenn, what ever happened to your working at, and selling stuff for, that rock shop up there? I can still do it but i'm off work for that job (camper parts) as its seasonal. But to be honest, I only had few people buy, and apart from 1 major purchase it hadn't really done enough... if i sell $20 worth i get 40% which is good if i did sell a lot, but my time has been spent on my website and lapidary as i make far more off my own lapidary for time input. If I had a shop where i had access to everything and could take down stuff as it sold it would be a bit different. Its possible that things will change and he may want me to actually work for him for rocks but until then i'm prepairing for a show at the end of february.

Sorry folks, I had no idea that picture jasper as a theme would be this difficult. Yes, "jasper" is an elastic term that has many variations, and not just in the "picture" type. It seems to be a catch-all descriptor that's attached to many non-jasper materials, and I assumed that a wide variety of non-agate stones with pictures would be acceptable.
Now for the irony in regard to me. After deciding on that theme I won't be able to enter a stone this month. I went into the hospital Friday for a supposedly simple out-patient angiogram that ended up as a 3-night stay due to complications. I also had two new coronary stents placed through the groin incision and I was discharged with a stern warning to avoid any activity that would put pressure on the incision -- like driving or pushing a stone against grinding and sanding wheels. So I look forward to next month. Hopefully this month's winner's theme is something I feel comfortable competing in. Good luck to all!

Damn Glenn! That cab is bad ass! Wow! Can you say morrisonite? Thanks This stuff is more like a rhyolite than jasper. I have cut a bit of morrisite and have a piece (i think) from the collection where this rock came from. I'm hoping this stuff will sell fast but according to someone i know local stuff sell best locally here so i'll probably have better luck on my website. I'm slowly working on stuff from that collection but i like working on local stuff i found as its fun to see the transformation.. Also Alaskan stuff is usually easier to work with, no idea why! I

Beautiful one! Lots of interesting stuff going on in there with the speckles. it almost looks like one is looking down from the top of a fire volcano with a river of lava starting to come down and those lava bombs in the air.

Sorry, I figured that Noreena wouldn't be a fair entry and comparison wouldn't be really possible against picture jasper. My order of picture jasper hasn't shown up to date. Next time maybe.
Until then keep / get well.
