January 2017 Fun Cab Challenge This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation whatever the outcome (just because the cab may not be the best please post anyway and if you like ask for feedback to improve). Theme chosen by prior month winner gemfeller : Picture jaspers of various kinds. Rules: All hand made cabbing techniques may be used. Cabs entered must be hand shaped (can be finished in a tumbler) and be completed by the last minute of the month in your timezone. They can be started before the month but only finished during the month. You must have 1 photo of ether a preform or slab of the rock. You can enter up to 3 individual finished piece (not combined) photos and 1 of the 3 photos will be used for voting to see what cab folks like the most (please note the photo you want used). You can change your photos or improve your cab and place new photos in your original post replacing old photos by the deadline. Finished jewelry cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified by the theme). It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the cab without a jump ring, as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.) All entries submitted to this contest must be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). Any duplicates will not be included in the voting list. Feel free to share with us the story behind your workings or material. Also, don't forget to include the name of the material. If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first. If there are any questions feel free to ask. Beginners to old timers are welcome. Prize : winner is allowed to chose theme for the month following voting and a physical prize of a faceted stone provided by micellular

I'll be first. I didn't have any picture jasper except for the piece of Owyhee that Tommy had sent over. Had actually planed it before Christmas but I was waiting on the silver settings to arrive before I got cutting. The settings finally arrived last week.

No relevant jasper... maybe I'm out of the picture on this one. Noting the abstract design on rivarat submission so far, I may just have a chance of finding something. Nice one rivarat!

Beautiful cab rivarat - as Nate pointed out your circle is spot on. I suck at circles - they usually turn into "freeform" haha. I don't have much time left before our trip to Quartzsite but I'll try to start something now and finish it when we get home. It's been a crazy-busy month so far with family drama at every turn. I can hardly believe the month is half over.

Time has been flying....

I agree, beautiful cab. Not to mention your perfect circle. Bravo! I just realised with everyone commenting on my perfect circle, I might have to retract my cab for the month as I used the faceting arm with the indexing locked open to preform the circle. After that all hand done on the lap. So I feel that I should retract my entry, might have to go back out to the shed and try again, maybe oval - can't do that with the faceting arm.

It is still a cab and you hand made at least part of it so it still qualifies. It doesn't have to be 100% hand made.

Since I'm still out of cabbing commission, I'll chuck in a faceted stone as the month's prize.

At least it is allegedly en-route... will it get here in time to do anything for this month? Who knows, it's gonna be close!

Sadly I will not be able to make a picture jasper cab - I love the theme but we've got two DIY construction projects going on in the house and my desk and garage are so covered with crap I can't even reach my workbench. It's really getting on my nerves - I'm so done with it and want to get back to playing with rocks

40 above, that sounds almost do-able... I have my "Blue Nose" certification packed away somewhere
