One of the first stones of the new year - a self-collected pinkish Oregon Sunstone from the Dust Devil mine, 0.92 ct. It's a surprise gift to my long-distance boyfriend who came out mining with me. He lives in Minnesota, so I thought the design "Winter's Grasp" by Arya Akhavan was appropriate. I really like the bicolor effect of the cut.

You are still speaking to RTH now that you have become a master facet-er ? Following your facets, facetnating.
When people measure their stones to the nearest 100th of a ct. ....

Its all been said, that is amazing. Great job. (fyi I still have some practice rough for you around here somewhere...when I find it I will send it on) Also you should really make a trip to Gem Mountain in Phillipsburg, MT for some sapphires - good meeting point for CA/MN. Cheers

jamesp, of course I like RTH! You guys are the friendliest bunch ever, political disagreements notwithstanding. And I'm saving up this year for a Genie since I have so many slabs calling out to me... bsky4463, Gem Mountain is on my bucketlist, and more specifically I hope to get out there in either this fall or 2018. My dream is to find and cut a sapphire for an engagement ring, whenever that happens. My hon has Montanable eyes - green with yellow flecks, which luckily the sapphires come in!

I didn't realize that you found the sunstone yourself. How cool! I like your idea of an engagement ring, too. You are certainly up to the task!

I missed this thread earlier, nice all the faceting stuff is in one place now. You are doing fantastic work micellular. I find Feldspar (Sunstone)is a really nice stone to facet, very forgiving and Akhavans designs are beautiful. I just cut a 10 carat Topaz in his Tesselation 10 design, its a wow stone.
