I'm not sure if i came to the right place, but; A couple of years ago I found this piece of rock in The Ardennes in Belgium/France. By now I became curious what kind of rock this might be. I hope I've finally reached the right place with people of knowledge about this. Any help will be appreciated. Album with pictures is below. imgur.com/a/74RNc

I think slag glass is a great possibility. Does the location you found it make sense for slag glass? Was there an iron smelting operation in the area at any point in time? Chuck

I found some info about iron smelting factories around 1500-1600 in that area. So it all starts making sense. Though, those factories were using blast furnaces and my guess is this lump was created by a bloomery furnace.. It probably date back even further than this period. The Iron Age?

Looks like slag to me. Foogle 'sieber agate' for old glass slag and its use in cabbing. Welcome to the forum btw. Are you in Fra / Be by the way?
