I am not moving out after all. The only way I can see getting back into the hobby is if I buy a tumbler and run it in my main room, and just close the bedroom door when I am trying to sleep. I have a sliding door to a tiny patio, and there is a tile floor in front of it...that is where I could put it. Run the television a little louder than normal...my neighbor does not hear the TV anyway so I can probably tune it up a skoosh (although she used to hear my gym machine). I would not want to run the tumbler on the patio, as I would have to have the cord go out the door and leave the door open slightly. Anyone tumbling this way? How does it work out?

You could also put down a rubber floor mat or piece of carpet to dampen the sound

I use Carpet Pad, 0ne piece that the tumbler sits on top of and it wraps around and up the wall a little bit. And another square cut to fit inside the tumbler under the rollers. Works very well after Stage 1.

On second thought, this won't work. My neighbor was bothered by my gym machine, she would HATE a rock tumbler. So I will have to try something else.

Sound deadening box.
Make one using syrofoam insulation boards. Make a small vent for heat escape if needed.

I use a plastic tote lined with bubble wrap for my mini sonic. Cut a slit for the cord to go out, line with 2 layersof bubble wrap, and set the tote on an old piece of very 1970s orange, yellow, and brown shag carpet. You can still hear a bit of grind for 1-2 days of rough stuff but after that just a very low hum. I have had no problem with heat build up, but larger units and rotarys may need vented. I have aprox 12 inches of clearance around and 18 above my tumbler inside the tote. It's saved my hobby AND my marriage!
