Oh yeah, the black and white whale bone is the good stuff. All the times I've hunted it, I only ever found one piece that color. Most is just the plain ole root beer colored brown stuff....Mel

Only black and white example I found was on the beach at the Ventura River mouth back of the fairgrounds but I found bone both north and south of the river outlet.....Mel

I used to find lots of it near my former home in Shell Beach (north Pismo). I remember quite a bit of brown but I have a big can full of it and will have to slab some to see what I really have. Majority is like this, brown but with nice cell structure:

Typical example of Ventura River mouth stuff. This one looked black and white on exterior but regular old brown whale bone on inside....Mel

That is some nice stuff there fish. Like i said that wood is cool but the bone.is just awsome, what do i need to do to get my hands on a slab or two of that bone?
