So those Chinese statues are amazing. And priceless. Literally. Like it's probably illegal to sell them or even drive them over a state line! Elephant ivory is heavily protected with harsh penalties. You have zero provenance. I'd look into donations to avoid possible legal issues down the road. Found this. It's the current rules from Fish and Wildlife, who manage the US regulations on ivory. On July 6, 2016, a near-total ban on commercial trade in African elephant ivory went into effect in the United States. The information on this webpage is intended to provide guidance for those who wish to buy, sell, or otherwise trade in elephant ivory. It’s important to note that the new regulations do not restrict personal possession of ivory. If you already own ivory – an heirloom carving that’s been passed down in your family, or a vintage musical instrument with ivory components, those pieces are yours. We know those items created long ago aren’t threatening today’s wild elephants.FWS Ivory InfoYou have to trust law enforcement to be reasonable to believe this. I for one do not. And in California possession even of antiques or fossil Mastodon is a bust.

I love thrift stores too, but besides the usual clothes or crock pots (for rocks/silver) I really never find cool lapidary things. Here is my best rock related thrift store find. Although I don't think the 'stone' is real. It's a single horizontal 'cateye' (star?) on each cab. The back is stamped Mexico 925.

Ok accidentalrockhound , I was showing this thread to a friend, who is a coin collector. He wants to know what the coin in your first picture is. It's the one dollar buffalo. He would love a front and back picture if you can swing it.

A few years back I was at the San Jose Salvation Army on Stockton & Taylor. They had a radial arm saw I was interested in. Someone said they also have a "tile saw" upstairs. They brought down a Highland Park 16" slab saw in excellent condition. $200. I snapped it up! At the same store, I found a couple of Lake Superior agates for pretty cheap. Lynn

Imagine the trouble you saved someone who bought it and tried to saw tile with it. It would be a major time drain to tile a bathroom with an HP slab saw as the primary tool.

That would be great, even at the thrift stores i ask for a manager and haggle the price you would be suprised how often they do go down, especially if I'm buying more then one thing, don't hurt to ask,

found this sitting as is, made an offer brought it home. Look forward to redoing it in antique ruby red. Just because the details would pop! I will post more pic's of the details. Very heavy solid plate steel looks like it may be 1 of a kind build, unique dampers on sides with ash catchers no stamps or makers mark , a sticker on the pedastal base may have been to legalize it to be used in doors, the guy i got it from found it in a trailer they where scraping? I like it!

Not much luck hounding my thrift shops but managed to come up with these. Brazilian book ends, Arizona's own rainbow petrified wood lots of colors. And just yesterday some Utah turquoise. A group shot of the turquoise. It is all backed . Nice color blending in them. The little ones have lots of character.
