Hmm, some of those shields you have pictured are bucklers. Your absolute best bet is to look up the nearest Renaissance Fair coming near to you. We just had ours. There are always booths featuring that kind of stuff and most all of the folks do custom work. Warning though due to the handmade character of the stuff, it sure ain't cheap but some of it sure is pretty. E-bay has a bunch of types of them way cheaper for cosplay folks too. You could always buy a hide and stitch it over one of their units or contact a custom maker of cosplay accessories..Mel

That would be a cool project!!! do you have any pics of the inside showing the strap arrangement? preferred metal and thickness? Dimensions? I see some on Google that are metal and some that are covered. You prefer bare metal, or leather covered? How ornamental? I could do the metal work and I have two friends who are leathersmiths who could do the straps and/or cover. Unfortunately, I have no earthly idea of what it would cost

Ahhh. There will be no more. Our fav author has passed. As the wheel turns so shall we be without his guidance here in the waste. You know that Sanderson guy that finished writing the series has his own series and it isn't up to par in my opinion! I got the impression that the Aiel mostly distained a shield. Also that they tr as veld fast and light so I mentally saw the shield as a small thing held by the hand and not covering much more than their hand. Just used to block and redirect a weapon blow. Last thing I ever expected was a fan here on RTH!

Great project and very useful for "end of times". If you get one made, I would love to see the picture. There are some videos on Youtube where old weapons are reviewed and they show some shields and their construction. Might be useful.

Last thing I ever expected was a fan here on RTH! I liked how Sanderson finished the series. Still can't get over how the last book was the last battle - start to finish. But I guess with the build up, a whole book makes sense. I'm re-reading the series now. I do like Sanderson's Mistborn series. The other stuff is okay. Great author, just not all my cup of tea. The Aiel shields were just bucklers, so not really something to hid behind. Definitely something to redirect opponents strikes, and open an attack lane, in close quarters - as you said.

Found something that I think will work - after we lose the feathers and add some forearm straps. Do any of you know how to track down some contact information for the gentleman that made this shield - Curtis Bitsui? Apparently he sells through many shops, but I haven't found a way to contact him directly...

Your friend does impressive metalwork, but I'm looking for someone that works in hide/leather/skins...
Thanks anyway.
