I read somewhere that etsy throws out plurals and looks for the singular. But, my search stats say otherwise. You have to pay attention, too, to etsy's little announcements about how they change relevancy. For instance, if you have sold items which are not marked as shipped, your shop is penalized for having poor customer service. Then there was the little announcement that the most relevant terms should be first in the title. It didn't used to be that way. They are constantly changing. It is up to us to keep up.
I have left more not marked shipped than marked shipped Tela. Rut row.
I spend $15/month for paid ads. Helped a bunch. Etsy gives an estimate of how much to spend on ads to stay competitive with the others in your category.
My fire pits on the first 3 pages of 'fire pit' (#1 search term) by far get the views and purchases. By far.
Those first few pages are key. I am sure you know that.
Fooling around with jewelry it was hard to get on the first 10 pages. Serious problem.
For some reason on Feb. 20 at 4PM I got a massive surge in traffic from a low ranking traffic source (m.facebook.com). Instant sales in 2 hours time.
Where the heck did that come from ?? How do you research the cause ?
Heck, turn that on for one day of the week, process sales and shipping papers the next day, ship out and go back to sleep for 4 days.
I mentioned a cheapo non-commerce Wix web site that links to Etsy's and Etsy's commerce capabilities.
Well, my wife has been going to Wix school and met a young Wix web site builder.
This gal said she could build a $5000 caliper site for a lot less. That web site builders over charge.
Denise had site built well, we paid her($100) to review it and tweak it for content and SEO term efficiency.
Denise was getting ready to do SEO the Wix on her own. I asked her to get a quote from Sarah George. Sarah George said she would do it for 12 months @ $100/month.
In two months time she got us moved to about top listing on google search. Instantly got calls and orders thru the web site.
It bumped me above my biggest competitor, a month later he opened an Etsy shop right next to me. Guessing he sensed my elevated presence on google. I am killing him on Etsy.
This competitor was using my company name as key title search word, i.e., playing dirty.
Sarah George ripped him a new one and attacked like a piranha. He Goliath and me David. Man, she is aggressive.
I know he has $10,000 site and pays big to keep it maintained. To the point he makes few changes due to costs.
Where Denise can make most any change in 5 minutes.
This is the part of business that motivates me. I love that this girl came out swinging for us(she is an MMA fighter lol).
