ribs broken from laughing. Needed that BOOST I believe we settled on the trade name "rammer" for the ratchet hammer. Maybe Garage Rocker will help us with a trade name for THAT! I think it had a different name Scott. May have been rammer. Dang memory. That tool was made and posted July 2013, remember. Helen was stirring up everything back then. lol

jamespTruth be told, I love that tool and the mad genius behind it. It proves a sort of eccentricity that I highly approve of. I am but a servant in your shadow.

But how can one lose that tool, jamesp? How many different places is THAT tool going to be useful? Other than your rock saw area. Have you checked wife's workshop? Leave word with someone if you go in.

When clamping coral the thick crust often caves in as clamp is tightened. To get a reliable grip the crust needs to be hammered off. So the ratcher .... typical crust:

OK, some of the coral from a cook out started 3 days ago. Unfortunately the bottom layer got too hot and destroyed half of the coral into a fractured mess. Before: after:

Orrum, thanks for the kitty litter tip. I've always used clean playground sand from the hardware store in the turkey roaster. I don't rely on the roaster temperature dial for temps. I've drilled a small hole in the center of the roaster lid and one in one of the corners of the lid. I insert two long stem high temp bbq thermometers so I get can get accurate temperature readings deep into the center and corner. Rick B Use kitty litter instead of sand. Heat rises thru it better and conversely out of it. Cook litter first to dry at 200. Put rocks in ends and sides for hotest temps at bottom with half inch kitty litter under it. Center and higher up in Turkey roaster is coolest. Take liner pan out b4 u start. Put fiberglass insulation to fill top up. Yes oregon and idaho picture jasper heats great snd colors are off the chart. Flint ridge does fantastic too! Rough needs a corner or two knocked off to leave a hole in the skin of certain rocks that are covered with a cortex or desert varnish. Otherwise they will pot lid a opening. After u have gradually cooled bt reducing 100 degrees at a time it will stI'll be too hot to open and chance fracturing so wait a couple days. If you didn't have some damage u probably didn't get it hot enough! LOL. Some rock benefits from being cooked more than once, ramp up, cool down and ramp up agsin.

Bottom shelf rock close to the heater blown to bits. ruined. Too hot. Coral was high grade glassy material, lacked grain. Darn it. Glassy coral 500F-550F Grainy coral 600F-650F 2nd shelf rocks did OK, hotter than desired. Brittle, hammer broken. Many corals showing corallites are better sawn. They lack glassy structure than a more cast coral. before(looks better) after:

The summer of 2013 rockpickerforever. Great recall. 10 year old saw blade looks to have 2/3 diamonds worn off at year 6 of 10. The saw clock tells. Damn, bought that blade when I was 50. My wife had put me out for indiscretions that year. Damn mid-life crisis.

I think there should be a "do not like" button also. This is creepy but so true. I seen once on my wifes facebook that someones grandma had passed and there was 3 or 4 likes....what the heck.

Oh no no no Billy, a dislike button will get you backlisted on Facebook. We mustn't have any negative connotations there, shame shame lol. Nothing but positive and reassuring is allowed, a delusional world. If you come home and find your house has been robbed, and your toothbrush and camera is sitting on the kitchen table I suggest you develop the film before using the toothbrush or throw it away. You may find that the toothbrush was stuck where the sun doesn't shine. Urban legend- urbanlegends.about.com/od/crime/a/toothbrush_tail.htmMrMike

A little more searching and I found this: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/684945/thread I believe this thread is the first mention. The thread was about a 20 lb blue coral head from Zephyr Hills. You knew I'd find it...

Became avatar for a long time. I save avatars for beloved, note present avatar... I think I was outvoted. And still stand behind "the rammer" as the perfect trade name for said tool! Lol
