I watched a program of the crystal caves on NatGeo yesterday. I thought the crystals were quartz at first but, realized they were too soft to be drilled into, so I knew they had to be gypsum.
Interesting that the bacteria is quite ancient and must use chemosynthesis.

Do I understand right, that those microbes while "alive" they are in a dormant state and not "living" per se?
