Looking at the subject of 'Top Keywords' on analytics page the search terms are listed from most used to least used.
You are allowed 13 Keywords on each listing.
I would think that the 13 top search terms from analytics should be listed as your 13 keywords on each listing.
OR-do the 13 keywords rate your ad position for your product category ? I think yes is the answer. But, do search words make the best listing keywords ?
Example, fire pit clearly being #1 search term.
fire pit 1,009001,009 fire pits 970097 steel fire pit 950095 outdoor fire pit 610061 metal fire pit 550055 planter 430043 fire bowl 370037 fire pit bowl 360036 fire pit cover 250025 industrial 230000 fire pits atlanta 201021 fire pit table 200020 table top 200020

Good questions. What I have always thought is that you use the words that a person would likely use to find your item. So, keywords are helpful. But, it should also be a user friendly title. And then your tags have to match the title and you have to word the title by relevancy and the more you use the same search words the more etsy believes that that is what you are offering.
As far as google, it only reads the very beginning of your ad, plus your title. Etsy doesn't search any part of your ad, so your tags/title have to sell the item.

I paid for a service to help with the key words/rankings, etc. It was interesting and their changes boosted my rankings but not sales so I dropped them. They listed key words for the industry and showed my position. Being more descriptive and using relevant terms helps your rankings. In my case, selling equipment, if I want to sell vibratory tumblers I describe one as a vibratory tumbler whenever I can. Not "vibe tumbler" or whatever. No idea how Etsy works but sounds like keywords are the same. By the way they told me making changes is picked up by Google so updating, blogs, etc. are a big help too.

You can request a google analytics tracking number and assign it to your website for free. It will show many statistical variables. Many many. viewer's ID # town viewer was in pages he viewed time spent per page whether he was on a desk top, phone or pad time spent viewing/ time per page viewer interest and many other things. A view means little if the view lasts a few seconds. If you have lots of 10 minute views then they are checking you out. If you have viewers that return to your site 2-3-4 times then they are likely interested. All that stuff is graphed and documented on Google analytics. You don't realize how little privacy you have when on the net. Must be the price paid for being a user. You can learn a great deal about your viewers and action can be taken to improve you conversion/sales.
