Gorgeous slab of Wyoming cedar knot that I thought would look good with some slabs placed around it then lit from below. It turned out to be a monster and the lights were not nearly enough which I could have remedied but by that time I was over it. The monster would have covered half of a coffee table and no way would have fit on any standard shelf. Back to the drawing board. Jim With a book to show size. The shelf it is on is about 16 inches deep.

Hey Jim it's not a monster if it's in a huge living room!!! Think mansion pardner! I like it!!!

It's not a monster at all. It's a dinosaur, a stegosaurus. Or maybe it's a slabosaurus.

I'm kinda with Bill on this. If your intention was to sell it.... well, lots of people live in big houses. I could see that in a log cabin type lodge home. You should finish it.
What if you glued up some agates slabs on very short posts and put led bulbs under them?

Hmmmm Thank you all for your comments. Not exactly what I was expecting but it gave me the warm fuzzies. haha rockjunquie, I did plan to hide the lights behind a small slab or two but I have to be careful not to go too high because it would block the best part of the cedar which to me and fossilman is a big part of the visual effect. And you don't want heat from light bulbs harming your slabs. Could it be a wall hanging and used for ambient lighting?

The new LED lights put out very little heat if any and last forever.

Jim They just tore down an old grain elevator here in town, the wood on the structure was over 150 years old! I stopped my there the other day, scarfed up some fine knotted fir......Will let it dry out, than stare at it for a few weeks, than see a project evolve from it..

A guy owns a shop that takes down old barns and he uses the wood to build tables and chairs. Makes a boat load of money.
