I have been broken into twice, it is not a good feeling. People who buy stolen goods are as guilty as the thief if not more so. Pretty hard to get rid of nice material like that and get away with it. The more I think about it makes me sicker. I always ask where the material comes from if someone I don't know is selling for a too good to be true deal. Last year I passed on a 5 gal bucket full of lakers because I didn't believe the guy picked them himself.

Cahokia Indian Mounds State Park got broken into years ago. Artifacts stolen. Hope it was with it. Jerks. Have some pride and morality.
On the other hand, Florida Rivers have (apparently) theives that steal rocks out of the citizen's navigable waterways since the government lays claims them.

In the reptile biz we had a "high end" store that was always having hottest and highest dollar snakes. $50,000 price tag wasn't uncommon.
Every 4-5 years someone broke and in stole those specific snakes.
Those prices are for insurance values. I sincerely doubt he gave them an inventory value anywhere near that.
Sadly in 2008/9 there was a.series of fires in reptile colonies nationwide.

Usually they are 100 per pound, after 2 lbs the price goes way up. A guy I know found a 3 pounder in some rip rap for his pond. He got 1800 for it. It all depends on the banding, color and if someone actually wants it for their collection. Maybe he had other agates stole, not uncommon for us agate guys to have 5 gallon buckets laying around.

I would be tickled pink if I had 5 gallons of agates laying around

@shotgunner At Moose Lake Agate Days I saw a person who had a foam lined briefcase type case with maybe 10-12 agates in it and the cheapest one was $1,500. They sure looked nice but I couldn't tell you if they were worth what he thought they were. I do know they start high so they can come down.................................MrP

Asking and actual prices are often very very different.

But still very hard to catch the crook. You can't engrave a SS number. Pictures might work but different views.
It's hard, very very hard but just try and smile. :) The crooks will get theirs sometime. Get'm

I was looking at ebay last night and someone had a shit ton of lakers for sale. Cabbed and raw. Cheap. I thought that was odd. Maybe it needs some sleuthing.
I hate a thief.
eta- The auctions that I saw last night for very nice and large aggies and for some nice large cabs are gone. They didn't end.
