Last memorial day Tony and Roy took us up to the McDermitt thunder egg sites. I collected a good amount of these golf ball sized eggs and they have not disappointed. Every egg has agate and every few have this red plumage. Two slices from each egg typically come out perfectly cabochon sized. Matrix is solid and cracks are rare. toiv0 have you cut any of them yet?

I have been out of town and haven't cut any yet, I am looking forard to seeing whats inside them now. I just bought a smaller saw and collection of agate, was suppose to pick it tomorrow and the guy called and backed out. So I just have my 18 inch running now and might be a little overkill on them small eggs and lots of waste.

That's really cool. I love the red stuff. Thanks Rob - yeah, I don't really know what to call it. It's kind of like a thick red carpet over the matrix on the inside of the agate. I've been calling it "plume" and nobody has objected or corrected me so I guess I'll go with it.

Might be a blood clot too.

Pretty! Nice that they come cab size.
A friend goes to McDermitt frequently. Quite a while ago, he returned with a lot of those little eggs. Figured they were probably duds. Finally cut them. WOW! Every egg was stunning.
You just never know! Thanks!
