Beach cobble comes prepolished and preformed. Some stones just want to be sliced once and miraculously turn into two freeform cabochons that a little vibe polish action bring to life.

Shannon, Marine Biologist huh? Bold move as that is one horrible job market even if you hang in and can afford to get that PHD. Here's some unrequested and probably unwanted, but free advice from an old timer. I dreamed of becoming a marine or aquatic biologist at one time until I went to a couple of competitive tests/interviews for state and federal jobs. Real eye opener. Huge number of individuals all very qualified for like two positions that did not even pay well. Wound up training more for wildlife biology and ended up doing 30 years as an agricultural biologist. Still didn't pay all that well, but heck one does need to work if one wants to eat and buy stuff and agriculture is a big growing field more like average job growth of five percent or so. I worked myself through school with no loans and poor parents and married young so a paycheck was pretty much more important than what kind if biology I did *L*. In biology sometimes you have to learn to be flexible and avoid becoming too focused on one particular aspect of the field. Marine biology has only about 3-4% job growth. Glad I was back in the olden times cause it's all about math and computers now too and man am I a computer dummy. Anyway. Good luck in your studies.....Mel
PS: I should also have mentioned, my wife went to Moss Landing and trained in marine biology a bit too and switched later to more ornithology oriented studies, then switched to So. Calif Edison non biology stuff. She was making double my pay in the blink of an eye.

Do you have pictures of the beach? I'd love to see the area you hunt. Here's the view from one of the lower plateaus of the cliff you have to climb up and down for access. Just to the right are the stone "steps" etched into the rock face. The angle doesn't really do the height justice. shannon Happy Birthday & thank you for posting this shot & the agate pics too. Pescadero Beach (and a bit more south) was where I hounded the same kind of agates for years when I lived in Cupertino. Your post gave me a little moment at the beach. Thanks. Lynn
