My 21st is this coming Saturday, so when my mom asked me how I wanted to celebrate of course I said "I want to go look at rocks".. Had a nice time. Afterwards we went to Sam's Chowder House and stopped by World's Rare Plants to pick up a carnivorous plant to add to my collection Here's some of the finds: Overall I got a couple pounds of agate, and a couple pounds of misc (jasper, quartzite, etc). Pretty ok for an hour's work. I'm not going to tumble most of the agates since I'm focusing on displaying them in their natural state. ps. Here's the plant I got. It's a sundew.

Nice rocks, but how do you only go rock hunting for an hour? I'm turnin 49 this week and I'm not mature enough to pull myself off the beach after just an hour.
Cool little plant. I hadn't heard of that one,

Happy birthday. I used to call my mom and tell her thanks on my birthday. Perhaps you took yours' rock collecting.

Nice rocks, but how do you only go rock hunting for an hour? I'm turnin 49 this week and I'm not mature enough to pull myself off the beach after just an hour. Cool little plant. I hadn't heard of that one, I don't like to keep my mother too long! ..Even if she's the one who insists on driving. She can't climb up and down the cliff like I can because she has some nerve damage in her leg. The area I hound in specifically has some really unpredictable tides/waves as well. Just better to not linger. And neither had I! It has sticky fluids on the ends of those hairs that attract gnats/flies/etc. When one lands on it the little tendrils curl up and digest it. I was hoping to get a pitcher plant originally but they were just coming out of dormancy so it was hard to determine which ones would do well.

Do you have pictures of the beach? I'd love to see the area you hunt.

Do you have pictures of the beach? I'd love to see the area you hunt. Here's the view from one of the lower plateaus of the cliff you have to climb up and down for access. Just to the right are the stone "steps" etched into the rock face. The angle doesn't really do the height justice.

Very cool post! Reminds me of my college days. I used to take me a lunch and a fishing pole and go down there and study while I fished. Somehow my pocket often filled up with those little agate nodules too. *S*. Looks like you hit a pretty nice day. Seems I often got the cold and fog....Mel

Pretty cool, Looks like a nice area. We have native sundews, fly traps and pitcher plants. If you knew they would transplant ok I would be glad to ship some to you. When the pitcher plants bloom its pretty awesome.
Oh and happy bday, pretty nice rocks

That's a beautiful beach. I'm glad I asked for a picture. Thanks for posting it.
We have pitcher plants here in Michigan, but I don't know if we have any other carnivorous plants.

Happy Birthday!!! I had my kids so young we are practically growing up together. I have to remind myself even at 44 that I'm not their age (28,22,17). They all pretty much rock hunt with me an as a mother I'm sure even that hour spending time with just you meant more to her than you know. Looks like a great place to play!!! My boys would be pulling me out of self made holes in the side of that cliff 😂😂😂 Great call on the rising tides. They can sneak up on you in minutes.

It actually was pouring rain on and off as we were driving to the beach funnily enough. And thanks everyone!

Neat little agates. My bucket list includes hounding on a beach and that one looks worthy of 2 buckets.
