Odd shaped little piece of obsidian probably wasn't a great first choice but it was fun:

Looks like you definitely got some basics down. Your binding looks really good. I saw that bail on youtube a while back and I really wonder about it. Seems like it might snag clothes. It's interesting, though.

It's interesting, though. Bails are killing me. I want to find something dead simple but end up trying to get creative and make a mess.

Keep at it, you'll find something that works for you.

With round wire with 3 strands on each side, wrapping the bail kind of works but it's hard to round it over without marring it up. I'm also having a problem being so scotch and keep shorting myself on wire at the end. I like the front on this but was the back of the bail is a fail. Back

Back Try sanding the edges of your pliers and you can put tape on the flat parts, too, to help with the marring. I think this looks pretty good. As long as the back is neat and you don't have any snagging wires, you should be ok. I always start with more wire than I need. That way, I am free to change my mind about what I started out to do. Copper is pretty cheap and you can turn your silver scrap in for $, so I don't worry about waste too much. I generally start with about 10 inches or more. (I wrap some big cabs.) Tumbles are more difficult to wrap, so you are doing pretty damn good!

That's a great start. The few times I have tried it I could never figure out what to do with all of the loose ends.
Peace, Rich

I have done electrical & electronics work all my life and actually was proud of my wiring work. Well, this looks exactly like what I've been doing all that time and I think that it would be easy for Me to learn this craft. Been watching a few videos and it Looks Easy to me. I just wonder if a Wrap made with 12 gauge household electrical wire has any value ?
Hmmmmmm . . . what about some wraps made with LED lights . . .

If you are using non-jewelry pliers, sand/file down the teeth all the way. Putting tape on the plier jaws (any pliers) also helps to keep your wire from getting marred. It would be worth it to get jewelry pliers. And masking tape.
I don't know how to wirewrap, but this is how we do it for metalsmithing.

Hey woof, electrical wire would be really stiff to work with. Also "wrapping" wire is often treated to make it tarnish resistant, although some people like to intentionally tarnish their pieces for artistic effect. Still no reason not to experiment with it.
I'm a self-employed PC tech, and one of the practical things I learned in college was electrical splicing and soldering. I think the methods used in good wire splicing transfer nicely to wrapping.

So much better than my 1st try at wrapping! You did a hell of a great job....NICE!! Thanks for the vote of confidence fossilman. I want to try wrapping some shark teeth but they're really small, will post results if they're not awful. Finished 11 wraps so far and still haven't done the same bail twice, hoping for a go-to bail eventually ...
Couple more:
