I think Mary Ellen is much prettier than Stone Canyon! It looks like Stone Canyon.

yuppers - Stone Canyon (pulling piece out of box) and that actually looks like a pretty nice piece! The black is just on the surface, so no biggie. 24 lbs of that quality Stone Canyon is worth a good chunk of change.
17 lb piece sold on eBay yesterday (it was on my watch list) for over $120 and it was no where near that quality.

I do have to ask... you are over 1000 miles from home, so how do you run into someone with a 25 lb chunk of Stone Canyon?

I do have to ask... you are over 1000 miles from home, so how do you run into someone with a 25 lb chunk of Stone Canyon? I was headed to look for the llanite and there was a little festival that I stopped for junk food. There was a guy selling high grade opal and spectalite. The material he had there was junk. He kept saying his high grade material was in his car and hadn't had time to get it. I think I insulted him with my offer on the material he had as he wouldn't give me a price. Ended up with the Stone Canyon and 2 deep fried alligator tails on a stick from the neighbors booth..,
