With the opening of the new Studio etsy venture, etsy has added new attribute selections. I did them all--- then they added more. I see that cabs will be listed in 2 spots- out of my control -
Craft Supplies & Tools >Jewelry & Beauty> Jewelry Making & Beading> Cabochons Craft Supplies & Tools> Paper Party & Kids Kids' Crafts> Embellishments> Cabochons
What in the freaking world do my cabs have to do with kids' crafts??? I don't want some simpleton mother buying one for her kid and having a choking accident.
I'm not too keen on the new changes. Right now you can view what your listing will look in the new shop. Go to edit a listing, click preview and then select studio from the drop down box. I do NOT like it, but I can not opt out of it.
There are a lot of bugs with the new attributes, too. There was a major problem with choices not sticking. This caused a LOT of work for me. I think they are rushing into this studio thing. I have a small shop and it was a lot of work. I can only imagine the nightmare of a large shop or two. There is a lot of confusion with the new attributes and how it will work in search, too. If I do not list an attribute or I list a different one from what the person is searching, even though it is the right item in other respects will I even show in search??? Lots of questions.

Remind me to thank Etsy for the *!@$*%$* busy work. 50 listings down, 110 more to go...as if we don't have enough to do to keep our businesses up and running. It better pay off in $.

Also, cabochons in kid crafts? seriously? That's the last demographic I would want to market fine gemstone cabochons to. I can see the reviews now: "1* little Timmy chocked to death trying to ingest paste covered gem silica artisan cabochon"

It'll be a 3* and go something like this "I haven't received the item, but when I do I will update my review". Im just like damn, havent even received it and youre leaving a 3-star.... just blows my mind. He also sells cheaper mass produced stuff, so its something I havent had to worry about really in my own shop.

I've yet to experience the preemptive low-ball review, but I've been dinged for all kinds of dumb stuff. It's all part of the game I suppose. I got 3*'d on a USPS shipping upgrade listing. I've been 1*'d because copper oxidized...good times.

Whoever Etsy has hammering out the categories must be too stupid to understand the difference between hand cut stone cabochons for adult jewelry and the plastic and glass cabochons used for glue-on kids projects...and also too lazy to research!

Larry C. they expect the users to know those details and tag accordingly. by allowing ALL the options it gives the users more flexibility and they only have to provide one screen. Otherwise they would not need the sellers to tag at all! One isn't required to check all boxes. only those that are neessary.

Perhaps I'm missing the boat, but I really have no desire to deal with e bay or etsy. My last e bay listings for rough, slabs and cabs were in the late 90's, or about the time the big influx of Chinese crapola was taking over the market. I have never tried marketing my jewelry on line, but might consider it come the day I no longer want to put in the hours at the shop in Branson.

I only have 50 or so listings right now so it wasn't as bad as you both, Don and rockjunquie. Hope adding attributes helps but not so sure.

They have chosen the kids' section, not me. I would have chosen other attributes for what they are calling "gemstones". (BTW- I have never referred to my cabochons as "gemstones".) I would have added maybe agate, jasper, quartz, etc.

Have been selling online since abt 1999. First ebay (when it was better), then a break, then ruby lane and now etsy. BUT, I have been letting my son go to a local artshow for me. He enjoys it, I don't.
