Here in Denmark we Call amber for "Danish gold" and of course i had to try and Hunt some Down. So I went for an hour drive to one of the few beaches here in my parts of the country where there is amber beeing found. It turns out it's a complete science to find it. It has to be a wide Beach with no rocks(due to the different in weight between rocks and amber, amber Will never be found where the is rocks) the Wind has to come from a specifik direction and the tide must be low! To top all of that you Hunt in the Night with a UV light. How fun is that😜 Ok, but I managed to find 3 small pieces before my face froze off. I so happy and it tastes off more. Looking forward to try and polish in the morning, just have to figure out wich wheels to use. Was thinking 400 soft....ish

I never knew there were so many rules to follow! Nevertheless, sounds like fun. Hope you post the polished pieces.

That's some serious dedication, good luck with the polishing, and future hunts.

Maybe check on polishing procedures BEFORE using any powered wheel?
I think I remember something about hand polishing I read quite a while back. There should be something on U-Tube showing the easiest / best way. I believe it mentioned melting / smearing with fairly low heat ? No need to get in a hurry, it's been laying there for thousands of years.
Checked U-Tube videos and they show polishing using a soft cotton wheel running at a slower speed. It is hard to tell how much pressure used but suspect it wasn't very much as it didn't appear they were leaning on it very hard ! I suspect the films were made in the Dominican Republic.

Amber has always been one of my all time favorite stones! So cool you can hound your own! Looking forward to seeing what you do with then! I love night hunting with UV lights too. Didn't realize that Amber was fluorescent. I'll have to pull mine out and look. Did you use long or short wave?

I have rock hounded a few times at night with a UV light. Definitely a different experience. Hard to miss the finds when they light up like that.
I have polished amber on my flat lap to "window" bug fragments inside. I have a variable speed machine and was able to use lower speeds. I used a 600 and a 1200 disk. Don't use anything coarser. The material will work very fast. Almost like polishing soft plastic. Don't use a lot of pressure and check your piece often.
Good luck and post photos when you get that amber shiny.
Darryl.
