Greetings Rockers!
I would like to find plans for a DIY starter tumbler. I would like to teach folks how to build and use a small starter tumbler.
I'm thinking that if I could find a source for inexpensive motors, and a good idea for inexpensive barrels, the rest is easy and cheap.
So what do you think? I'm looking for good ideas.

depends on the amount of rock you want to be able to tumble. Most homemade tumblers are built to tumble larger quantities of rock. It is not cost efficient to build a 3 pound capacity tumbler when they can be picked up used all day long for $35-40 bucks. I spent a lot of money on my homemade tumbler but it tumbles 50 pounds at time and has been running pretty much non stop for 5 years. Lots of folks go with PVC to save money. I have never used one so will not comment on them but I have never in 5 years had one leak or failure in a lortone barrel. Never even replaced so much as a lid gasket. I know $80 sounds like a lot for a 12 pound barrel but running for 5 years non stop comes to .30 cents per week to cover the barrel cost. I have a few images of some designs I came up with in this link just to show what components are needed. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/62403/selling-tumbler-plans-updated-picsMy homemade tumber Chuck
