I'm looking for a good site that has inexpensive sterling or gold (filled or 10k) for inexpensive amounts.

Glenn, if you didn't find what you are looking at the mentioned sites (I didn't look as I have no interest in chains) maybe your best bet it to sell without a chain - especially a precious metal(s) one.
You should be selling your cabs. May include a leather strap if you feel the need. Your customers probably already have chains on hand to swap out or can go purchase their own. Folks want different lengths, thicknesses and quality. Let them deal with their own chain.
If you are looking for cheap chains to jack up your profit margin, people will know when they get it. Or their skin turns green! You plan on stocking gold & silver chains in a half a dozen lengths and/or thicknesses? Don't see the logic in that. You ain't QVC
Cliff Notes version - don't sell cheap chains. You will be doing well to just sell the cabs. Adding to the price to cover the cost of a chain may have people moving on.

Dreamland had 1mm boxchains Italian Sterling Silver- 16" with an adjustable chain to 18". That covers most people. If you buy in bulk, which you should be doing, it works out to a very fair price. 1mm is not the thickest (or thinnest) chain- it is a good chain. The reviews were excellent. I doubt you can do a whole lot better for a decent quality chain.

Ok, I'm just wanting to start with a few at first to see if it helps them sell any better as ive had quite a few people say i should sell with chains. One of my few competitors sells with chains and does a lot better than i do and can charges a tidbit more than i do because of the chain. He pays $1 ea or under for his chains and they are sterling or gold filled which is where i'd like to try to be around.

Soild sterling chains for <$1? I find that very hard to believe unless he's buying them by the 1000s at a time. Now silver plate, sure that stuff comes from overseas by the boat load and can be had for pennies, but you get what you pay for.

Yeah, that sounds like BS. Remember... he is your competition, why would he tell you the truth?
I went to Aliexpress and got 2mm sterling ends black rubber cord and I paid more- for large lots even! So, I severely doubt he got sterling chains under 1.00. IF he did- they wouldn't be anything that I'd want to send to my client. Remember Glenn, you are trying to make people happy so they will come back. Don't insult them with junk.

Beware of overseas chains. If the chain says silver then it is stating the color, if it says it's marked .925 and doesn't mention sterling then it has .925 stamped on it but it isn't sterling. The .925 is just a name stamped on the chain. I bought several of these and put them to the torch, they never melted into a ball like sterling should but acted like brass.
You should only buy when sterling is stated in the ad even then you can get scammed.

They break, bind, pull hair and come apart. If one is selling nice jewelry, don't sell it with a one dollar chain! Stay away from spring rings and buy chains with lobster claw clasps. When folks buy chains for a dollar that are marked .925 or Sterling, I can almost guarantee they are counterfeits made in China and made of who knows what metal. The Chinese are even marking their chains "Italy" now, so it is buyer beware. Buy from a reliable source at a fair market price and usually you are ok.

I think that may be the website I order from unless i can find better. I'm looking for inexpensive not cheap items. Also my competition wasn't competition when he was teaching me way before i even had any lapidary equipment (we were co-workers at the time as well and known him due to high school relations). To be honest most people that cab and sell at $20 and under for cabs at least my size are selling inexpensively, lower 48 i'd say $18 as 2 is the difference between ak and lower 48 or less, everything just cost a lot more up here Good tips on what to look for though, This here caught my eye as well. allyexpress link If shipping is not going to cost a fortune i'm definitely going to get stuff.

I have ordered from Aliexpress a few times with good luck. You have to be very very careful and a smart consumer there. I did order the cords with silver ends. The ends were stamped appropriately. Some of them had to be reglued but for the price, I was ok with it. Just be onguard for misleading terms. I think I got free shipping for everything I have gotten. Some shipped quickly, some took awhile. I would order again, but I will only ever order things that can't really be messed up. I would never order sterling chains chains there.

I just bought $30 worth of chains from Factory Outlet 925 Sterling Store on Aliexpress. I knew when I was buying them that it was too good to be true, the same chains would have cost me $500 on Rio. But they had great reviews and looked legit. They are not. I now have $30 worth of zinc alloy chain. The S.G. is too low for sterling and they draw a neodymium magnet. So yes, your competitor is likely paying less than $1 each (mine were somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-60 cents each), and they are marked 925, and they look nice, but they are not real. I've opened a case to dispute the purchase and have reviewed them as fakes, but they have so many positive reviews, mine just gets lost in the sea of idiots who don't care to verify the purchase.

My wife orders quite a few things for her business from AliExpress with mixed results. Some suppliers are great and some not so good, both in service and quality of merchandise. We have received some that was such junk it was just thrown away as returning it was not worth the cost and hassle.

Don't resale garbage to your customers...offer quality at a competitive price...give them good value for their money.
