After the rough grind the AO 80 seems to work like magic in the small barrels for about 10 days (Not so good in the Loto itself)........then straight to polish in the Loto. Thanks James!

Good to know you did a pregrind. AO 80, I need to look into that a little more.

After the rough grind the AO 80 seems to work like magic in the small barrels for about 10 days (Not so good in the Loto itself)........then straight to polish in the Loto. Thanks James! Glad to here rasta. Have been curious if the gentle 3 pound barrels would process the AO 80 in just 10 days. This is a victory. You said you had plastic specks from using the 80 in the Lot-O. I was wanting to mention that I run the 80 in the vibe so wet that no water needs to be added for 2-4 days. The main reason is to avoid having to spray water in it every 12 hours, but then I found the wetter slurry was making a superior polish in less time. So, I do not know if the wetter-than-normal vibe runs would prevent your abrasion on your Lot-O bowl. For that matter, don't be surprised if straight AO 120 does the same job without damaging your Lot-O hopper. I have now found that taking rocks out of the rotary from(not broken down) SiC 30 to AO 80 in the vibe for 2 days requires only 3-4 hours in AO 14,000 in the vibe to get a wet shine. Which is not a surprise since the 2 days(3-4 days with small rocks) in the 80 is darn near a 14,000 polish. The 80 bridges the middle gap even when starting with a nasty SiC 30 surface. I have not tried say 6 days in the larger barrels, but would not be surprised if 6 days would do the conventional 220-500-1000 steps. It used to take me 30 days to do the 220-500-1000 at 10 days each, sometimes 220 for 7 days, 500 for 7 days, 1000 for 7 days making 21 days total. Plus dang clean outs. Still kicking myself for using 220-500-1000 for all those years.

The few hours in polish and then a burnish makes for a great polish. Sometimes it is hard to tell if the polish improved the AO 80 finish. The AO 80 finish is improved about half the time by the 14,000 polish. Burned out on clean outs. Hope I'll survive lol.

just got some ao 80 in today. reading some older posts doing research. does it make any difference if you leave in the ao 80 longer? and if it breaks down to almost the polish grit maybe a separate polish bowl wont be needed?

The last two barrels I've had going started with a mix of SiC 60/90 and AO 80 which ran for 5 weeks with new rough. The result was good. Wish I had taken photos, but the stones were shaped well and very smooth. The majority of them are now tumbling in a single barrel with AO 500.

That's good news to hear. Good results from two different people.
I just need to buy some AO 80
Post your pics if you can?
