Serious Books for Serious students.
Geology 101 "The Geology of Nevada Ore Deposits"
The required text for my 1957 "Mineralogy 303" class was Dana's 4th edition of "A Textbook of Mineralogy."
Now, 60 years later it is tattered and worn, but still the book I most often go to for information.
I place it at the top of my list.
1. Dana's textbook of Mineralogy.
2. Bowen - The Evolution of the Igneous Rocks
3. Melosh - Impact Cratering a geologic Process
4. Philpotts - Principles of Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
5. Brush - Manual of Determinative Mineralogy
6. Sinkankas - Mineralogy
7. Stokes - Essentials of Earth History
8. Challinor - a Dictionary of Geology
9. Hamblin & Howard - Exercises in Physical Geology
10. Bullard - Volcanoes of the Earth
11. New Mexico Geological society - Ash-Flow Tuffs
12. The whole series of Road Side Guides and Rockhounding States Books
Fran Barnes Was a friend of mine. He wrote many books and booklets about the MOAB area, led Gene Shoemaker and others to Upheaval Dome to prove it was an impact site. He took me to many locations along Robert's Rift that was created by the impact.
If you are planning on studying the area, I recommend his book.
