Otto Frei was advertising a sale on Durston tools with an additional 5% off discount, so I ordered a much needed Durston ring stretcher/reducer combo tool for my business. It arrived yesterday and I immediately noticed several problems: 1. bent screw. 2. "steel" compression ring appears to be base metal with a nickel or chrome coating that is chipped and ragged in several places. 3. no Durston logo or serial number. I've contacted Otto Frei for an RMA, but I'm not anxious for them to ship me another one. I think I'll shop with someone else...     |

Hmmm.... I would think they got a hold of some factory seconds to move. I can't see them knowingly selling counterfeits. I would definitely return and go elsewhere, though.

Seems like there would be some kind of internal control, I suppose they arrive boxed and sent out boxed from the wholesaler. Cutting corners everywhere, the internet pressure and low profit margins. Big name tools have been selling their names to unscrupulous (never realized there is 4 'u's in this word) companies who make inferior tools under names that have been tried and true, Diamond, Cresent, Stanley....maybe now Durston.

that bites! I've never had a quality issue with Otto Frei, but had plenty with Rio since they became publicly traded. Otto Frei has an excellent reputation, so I'm sure they will stand behind it for you. Please keep us updated.
