Put up pictures of your favorite stuff! I bought a box of this and wish I would have gotten tons more. Some of them were just, meh, but some turned out like this:

Sabre52 , wow those are gorgeous. Am I understanding this correctly, you just shaped them then tossed them in a tumbler? Is that a thing? That's genius! I especially like that 2nd to last one.

jet, Yep, I preform and cut the crown, do a little light sanding, then go to the vibe tumbler as vibes don't change stone shapes like rotaries do. Takes a day or so in fine grind to sand them and then I just finish in forty stone lots in the vibe polish and pre polish stages with lots of tiny polished stones as filler. I know it's the lazy way to finish cabs but then I hate sitting in front of the wheels for hours. I finish all my hard stone cabs in the vibe, soft stones or ones that undercut like dino bone, on the wheels....Mel

Yup, more than one way to skin a cat. This was shaped on the side of a tile saw blade, then thrown in the Lot O. Maybe not as precise, girdle-wise, but you work with what you've got.

We have been talking about getting a tumbler, but as neither of us have ever done it before we have no idea where to start.
Looks like we need to take a look at vibrating tumblers now. 90% of what we dink around with is either jasper or agate, so this could definitely move things along much quicker.

I'll share that info with Manthing and get back with you. It looks like a pretty solid piece of equipment. What grits should we start out with? Does this work best with preformed pieces or will it work with scrap odds/ends that are left over after cutting?

Vibes don't change the shape of the material much so preforms work well. The UV-10 ( what I like) is a workhorse but you really don't want to use the tubs for grinding much. Rotaries are for rounding stones as they really change stone shape. The vibe tubs are not real thick and using them for grinding will cut through the bottom sides pretty darn fast with the result of having to buy another $50 tub. I preform and mildly sand my cabs, put them in one tub of fine grind for maybe three days or so. Here you must keep an eye on moisture and make sure your load cycles well in the tub or your grit and stones will settle to the bottom and really cut through that tub fast and your stones may deform. I use a totally separate tub for prepolish/polish....Mel
