Dorthy was born in Grand Rapids Minnesota, I believe the Mississippi flows through there. Is that the midwest 1dave ? The 1803 Louisiana Purchase is generally in the Central US. For the past 200 years the West has been everything west of Wichita Kansas, and the Midwest has been Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, etc. are all in the MidEast!

Sorry Dave, I have been to the Mideast. I have been pretty much all over the states, too. Not even Chicago has anywhere near the magnitude of negative vortex pressure that the Arabs and Persians generate over there.
The Midwest starts west of the Appalachians and ends at the plains. It was not that many years ago that Tennessee was 'west'.
All this discussion really messes up Minnesotans. The mighty Mississippi starts there. A considerable portion of the state doesn't even drain into the Mississippi (IMO the best part of the state) and the James gang got shot up there. No wonder the Vikings play there.

Obvious to anyone who looks. OFF TOPIC! WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT ANYPLACE OUTSIDE THE US!

1dave is it the mountain air that creates a need to SHOUT? All the sniveling in the state of Utah will not fix the fact that people of an older generation named the midwest, I hope you are sitting down and have set down your beer, the midwest. There are certain mysteries in life that everyone is not to understand. To you, Midwest appears to be one of them.

Right. You are in the Far Out West, So the Midwest is east of you and west of Kansas. I'm in Albany, NY . . . my road atlas has a lot of indistinct gray fog west of Kansas with the legend "Here Be Dragons." Right you are. It looks like we are stuck with a 200 year old Labeling Error for another hundred years before THEY finally get their maps right. Midnight is the middle of the night. Midday is when the sun is straight overhead no matter what "daylight savings time" says. Midwest is in the middle of the west, not the middle of the east.
