My bud who has been exclusively tourquoise for years, sold me his dad's 10" Star Diamond trim saw. It has been in storage for a long time since his dad passed away. He does not have the operating manual, or it is somewhere in a place that will never be seen again. Is there any advice about how I could get one? The saw is absolutely fantastic in good shape. I can use it as a trim saw, but I would like get the travel mechanism fixed on the auto vice so I won't have to mother hen the slab if possible. One other thing that has my curiosity is that the motor that powers the travel vice has an outlet on the side. My buddy and I cannot figure what that is for. This is a great forum!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I believe that the Star Diamond is very similar to the Raytech 10" saw. On my Raytech 10 the outlet on the powerfeed box is where the motor plugs in. Are there two switches on the powerfeed box? If so, one is for the motor (saw blade) and one is to turn the powerfeed on. The motor plugs in the powerfeed outlet and there should be another wire coming from the powerfeed box to plug in the wall outlet. Here is a link to the owners manual for the Raytech 10 saw. Maybe it will be helpful. - ? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if you can find the proper manual searching with Google - or someone here may have a link. www.raytechgemprocessing.com/support/pdfs/gems/saw.pdfAgain, welcome to the forum and enjoy that new saw!

Captbob, I just finished hooking a RayTech 10 inch saw back together with a new motor and blade. Put new gaskets all the way around the lip of the oil pan. It cuts fine, there does seem to be a lot of oil running down the hinged side that faces the motor. Have you ever had issues with getting the gaskets set properly. I did tighten all of the bolts that were mentioned in the Troubleshooting guide. I wonder if I need to double up on the gaskets?
Any suggestions.

I think you can get a pdf manual from Barranca Diamond/ MK Diamond. They marketed that saw as the PF10 for at least 8 yeas after MK acquired Star Diamond. I think I have a printed manual and can send it to you if you PM me a mailing address.

First of all, I want to thank everyone here at RTH. During my working years, I did not have a lot of time for lap work as much as I wanted. It was that kind of job, with continuous non stop travel. United is not the only problematic airline out there, I can attest. Anyway:
Like I said, my Tourquoise Bud (TB) here in AZ- (cast of thousands- not including native Americans) sold me his dad's 10-PF Starboard. He had no use for it to do T work. Great saw, and yes BD bought them and made some good improvements on the "BD-10" over the years. Albeit, very pricey for me. RTH saved my bacon on some other saws up for my consideration. Came close. Thank you- mucho!
Included in the SB purchase were some "Green Blade" 10" blades. I changed out the old blade today, and when I went to get the new "Green Blades" imagine my surprise when there was no rotation arrow. TB's dad was frugal. The kerf-rim also kind of looked, well unusual. Somehow I began to have doubts when the thing resembled something painted with Walmart's best latex, aqua green- bathroom color, circa 1950. Ok, before I bothered the board, I Googled it. The 8" goes for $20.00, so that further made me a bit nervous. I usually buy MK's, because well they are MK's. I paid three times as much for my 6" blade than what Greenie was charging for it's 8".
I am not into wasting time or possibly putting my 10" into an earlier grave, (including myself). Has anyone used these blades? I have two. I am not confident with one. Brand new.
One other thing, I know there is a RTH thread concerning the travelling mechanism on the auto advance device (SB-10-PF) here, but I cannot find it. The auto advance screw is kind of dormant. 10 years in storage can do that. I may give up and go to an electrical machinist. I was wondering if anyone could direct me to that RTH thread. The Andy thing did not bring it up. I like the Andy thing, but I really like going through as many subjects and threads when I can. Good stuff! Always. Thanks!
Mike

bmw2002 , I happened to find this blade today while looking to see who might carry lapidary supplies where I live. By description, I'm wondering if this is the green blade you're referring to. Sure, there have to be dozens out there, but I thought I'd take a chance. hitechdiamond.com/shop/thick-notched-diamond-saw-blade/ETA: I just reread your post and realized that you might have ID'd your blade as you mentioned finding an 8" version. I'll leave this just in case. Good luck. Dave

Hi Dave: Thanks for your post. I came across this "Green Blade" thing @ www.jsgemslapidary.com/8in-MEAN-GREEN-BLADE/ I am probably being over dramatic, as this blade is brand new. The rim on the blade is crimped, which I have never come across, and does it matter which way it rotates? Since there are no notations on the cardboard case other than "The Green Blade" I suppose not. Not even a warning to run it in mineral etc. oil. Oh well. I wonder if there is a pun intended about "Mean" as they call it? Does it stand for rigorous or just cheap (er)? My mom's bathroom was painted the same color as the blade. Not to be confused with any Raytech blades which are superb tools. Mike

Turns out we have Hi-Tech here in town which is how I ended up seeing it. Nonetheless, as MrMike mentioned, the site you linked belongs to a member here, johnjsgems. Since he's been tagged here, he'll probably jump in and give you some feedback about the blade and address your questions. Looks like you're moving in the right direction. Regards. Dave
