Do you guys remember this original Tread from captbob? forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/77310/high-speed-rock-tumbler-ebayThere was many discussions about this tumbler an it not rolling as fast as the description stated. Then the discussion moved on to a cheaper place to buy O-rings. Those of us that bought those found out quickly why they were cheaper. During some experimenting I figured this out: 1. Blue tumbler DOES ROLL FAST If, now get this... Use one of the Thumblers A-R2, 3lb barrel lid ring for the belt on the blue tumbler. It rolls fast and no messy black powder residue! 2. The cheaper O-rings work great for sealing 3lb tumbler lids!

The blue Tumbler turns 4.5 times in that 5 second video That figures out to 54 RPM
Red Tumbler does 3 rotations works out to 36 RPM

I just knew that when I changed out the O-ring thingy ( don't the technical words just give you goose bumps) it stopped making a squeaky noise, the dust particles went away and it turned a lot faster! That tumbler is FULL TOO.

Well I like the 3 lb barrel lid ring idea. Have some somewhere, will give one a try next time I need to switch belts.
Not buying the RPM numbers... no way, no how a Thumler's 15 is turning 35 RPM with the low speed motor. Mel, put a piece on blue painters tape (or something you can see) on the barrel at the edge or or on the rim and with a watch w/ a second hand count the revolutions in a minute or in 30 seconds and times by 2. Do it a couple times to see if you get the same number.
I'm betting low 20s to 25 max for the red barrel and closer to 40 than 50 on the blue. Leave the tape on and redo the count in one week then again at two weeks to see how much the barrel slows down as the belt stretches.

Ok checked these 3x's: Blue is 40 revolutions in 1min Red is 21 revs in 1min Wow you count fast Capt'n!!

Never doubt a Captain And, please do a recheck in a week & two. Interested in seeing how well the blue maintains that speed. I can't get my 2 blue units to hold high revolutions for more than a week before the belt stretches and the barrel slows down.

I need to do a homemade build like @shotgunner's purple monster with two roller levels with one for high speed and one for low speed. Just haven't figured out where to put it!

I need to do a homemade build like @shotgunner's purple monster with two roller levels with one for high speed and one for low speed. Just haven't figured out where to put it! I just bought the pulley for top shelf. Cut speed in half to 32. I hope. I have measured up the belts and will get them next week. I'm running 80ao at high speed now. Need to slow it down. Easy build. Go for it!! I guess u didn't buy the fixer house.

That house is "pending" and it wasn't our offer. Guess that after being on the market for 8 months that someone else put in an offer (higher than ours) in the same week. *sigh* Only hope might be that the financing doesn't go through for them and our offer may be considered. Sucks as I was looking forward to fixin' that place up. But that would have seriously cut into my spending money. So for now I can keep buying rocks with reckless abandon! But I still need more room.
Did you get your homemade barrels built Scott?

FINDING ROOM is my problem too ๐
