Yikes! I clicked on your link and was told YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS PAGE!! On iPhone 6S. Hi Pat - it's closed for maintenance - I posted about it above. Trying to clean up all the photo bucket damage.

Hmmm, I see I am at least the third person to mention our inability to access the new thread.
Suggestion: add LINK TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE to the title of this thread , or next to your link.

I'm almost done now though This is an old thread BTW. What I need to do is take the "new" out of it :-)

Version 2 is officially released! forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/page/diy-projects1) Fixed all photobucket broken images - there will be more but I'll fix them as we go. 2) Fixed all the old andy321 links 3) Got rid of the pages - it looked nice but it was a major PITA for editing the pages 4) Added three new posts I know there are more posts that should go up - if everyone can gently remind me when you see one I have missed - thank you

Looks good Tommy! ~Duke Thanks Duke! I think it's ready for an update again - I'm pretty sure there have been some page worthy projects that have come along since the last update.

The DIY projects page received a long overdue updating this morning. If you know of any DIY projects that still need to be enshrined on the page please bring them to my attention in this thread!
Thanks

I know I'm a bit late to the party here, but would it be possible/useful for the page to have a "parts" section? Back in 2007 when I built my first cabochon machine, I spent an absurd amount of time trying to find an arbor for it because I didn't know it was called an "arbor" ("steel shaft with bearings" at the time resulted in primarily automotive parts). I don't know that there need to be links to buying locations, but a section that is a visual reference for people to look at and find names/info on parts could be useful. I guess it's on my mind because I learned just recently what a "pillow block bearing" is (component used on the Loretone LS-14).

Until someone here decides to write a lexicon of lapidary, I'd suggest that the info exists in many books. For example, Gem Cutting is Easy, by Martin Walter, Crown Publishers. 1972. Gem Cutting Shop Helps - The best selected from 17 years of the Lapidary Journal. Hugh Leiper Ed. Arts and Craft Press Sixth Printing 1969. Its obvious that the internet can't totally meet society's informational needs. Books are both valuable and essential. An additional reference with a good review of lapidary equipment and techniques is Gemcraft - How to cut and polish gemstones. 2nd Ed. Leland Quick and Hugh Leiper Chilton Book Co. 1977, Radnor, PA I recently discovered complete catalogues for Highland Park equipment (1969 and 1971) and Beacon Star (yr. ?) on the Tucson Lapidary site tucsonlapidary.com/1970-71-highland-park-lapidary-catalog/These documents are a treasure in providing the details and breadth of offerings by these two pivotal companies in the lapidary field. Also available is a slide show of other vintage advertisements. Other than having an excess of adverbs, the compilation is a great one. Enjoy.

Tommy, I started a thread that showed a cheap camera set-up that might fit in miscellaneous. Cabochon + Photography Station was on July 28, 2020 if you want to look at for possible inclusion in DIY.
