is anybody getting good results from their little 4 pc kit in plastic jars?
I just pulled my 4th batch from polish and still nothing even close to shiny, very smooth yes, but not shiny!
The first batch I did was mixed materials the whole way through, so I tried a single rock type, then I tried plastic pellets (they were backordered for a few weeks from my local supplier). This last batch was done totally by the book, down to the dedicated barrel, lots of pellets, pretty much following every tip I found here, still no joy.
I find that a little wet sanding with 1500 grit sandpaper gives a much better finish than this so-called polish from Lortone.
So I guess the next thing to try is buying polish from someone else, I suppose I can mix this lortone crap with pre-polish to strech that out a few more batches.

Hey Rally - A lot of people on this board, including me, do a 1000 grit tumble after 500 and before polish. Seems to work like a charm. James was the first to push this method, I believe.
500 grit is considered pre-polish in a lot of starter kits, and I don't think that's helpful, especially for beginners.
Tripoli is probably equivalent to the 1000 aluminum oxide as a realistic pre-polish. The 1000 and other polish options are available at the Rock Shed - easy to order online and quick to deliver.

rally, if you use the pre-pack grit kit you usually wont see the shine you expect to see. My pre-pack didn't even have polish, they put in tripoly and called it polish. I now run 500, and AO 1000 before polish.
