I initially cleaned pretty thoroughly, but now just get as much liquid and solids out as possible, use cleaner oil to wash down the vice and rails, and refill. The bit of discolored oil and minor amount of grit left in the saw just shorten the time till the next cleanout by a day or two so . . . . It may feel good to start with a cleaner saw but after a day of cutting they all look the same.

I clean mine out when the gunk starts adhearing to the lid and carriage. I dont go as far as using degreaser, but i do wipe everything down after I've removed the used oil. I especially make sure the carriage is clear of all debris prior to adding fresh oil.

On my saws I clean every third or fourth oil change. By clean I mean. Empty and squeegee the bottom and white terry cloth everything. Pure clean oil over all moving parts. . It never hurts to check nuts an bolts and bearing rollers to insure alignment and carriage is functioning. Some times it's only a couple weeks between clean outs. Lots of slabs, and preforms to cut.

Dip out most of the sludge. I have a double pail with paper bag for filtering the old oil. Refill with oil. Start cutting! Why waste time cleaning when it will be dirty on the first cut anyway.............................................MrP
