I’m perusing the link. Interesting dave never heard of the Isle of the Seven Cities. Antillia! That may have morphed into Cibola!!
Many times I’ve gone to the local library and scanned microfiche articles from the Phoenix Gazette newspaper circa 1880’s and beyond. Amazing lures. All I can say is that miners settled Arizona! Probably discouraged 49’ers/ As is evident from the article/book in the link (Prospectors page 64)
If they didn’t find a treasure— they made up tales to make themselves feel better….mostly

mohs Right Ed! There were two totally different death rituals going on at the same time. Some cremated their dead, others buried them - usually in flex position. 15 inches of rainfall annually, naturally some would mummify. Unusual to see one laying flat, but . . .
