Black is actually a recessive trait.

And many colors are truly dominant. In which only one parent need have the color for 50% (or all) of the offspring to show it.

Certainly 80 generations is plenty to mix up the Spaniards genetics into what you see today.

James I think you want this to be true. No amount of want in the world will changes simple facts.

Not from the things I have read. Black is dominant to the red gene in horses and red is recessive:

Very interesting. I have never heard about the horse. I know they found giant sloth remains in the cave and there used to be tons of Native American artifacts in the cave. We were told back in 6th grade that some guy was collecting artifacts in the cave and we collected what he wanted he put the rest in the 6th chamber (the largest) and dynamited it. I spend a lot of time out near Gypsum Cave but have never gone to it. Chamber 4 collapsed a while back so I never considered it stable enough to explore. Maybe with the finds they are getting they could be trying to stabilize it. Not sure.

Every "wild horse" herd I have seen in Oregon were not that tame at all. The stallion would round up his herd and then face you. Never seen a herd without a stallion. The American natives never had horses until after the Spanish brought them over.
